Yuki Ota became the first Japanese medalist in fencing at the Beijing Olympics, followed by two consecutive medalists at the London Olympics, and has greatly rewritten the history of fencing in Japan. Since his retirement, he has been active as one of the main presenters in the bidding for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and also became the youngest president of the Japan Fencing Association in order to popularize fencing and improve the level of competition. He has been the youngest president of the Japan Fencing Association to improve the level of fencing competitions. In December 2018, he was appointed Vice President of the International Fencing Federation.
